School District Guides for Santa Clarita Valley

Understand which school districts serve each SCV neighborhood. The Santa Clarita Valley uses a split system — elementary districts handle younger grades, while the Hart District serves all SCV students for secondary education.

How School Districts Work in SCV

The Santa Clarita Valley school system is organized differently than many communities. Instead of a single unified district, SCV uses separate elementary districts for younger students and a shared secondary district (the Hart District) for grades 7–12.

Elementary Districts (4)

Serve younger students. Which one covers your home depends on your address:

  • • Saugus Union — Valencia, Saugus (K–6)
  • • Newhall SD — Newhall, Stevenson Ranch, parts of Valencia (TK–6)
  • • Sulphur Springs — Canyon Country (TK–6)
  • • Castaic Union — Castaic (TK–8)

Secondary District (1)

Serves all SCV students for junior high and high school:

  • • William S. Hart Union High School District
  • • Grades 7–12 (or 9–12 for Castaic students)
  • • ~21,000 students valleywide
  • • Includes 8 high schools and 6 junior highs

Important: District boundaries don't always align with neighborhood names. A home in "Valencia" might be in the Saugus Union or Newhall School District depending on its exact location. Always verify school assignments by address with the relevant district.
